چکیده

We report on the re-determination of the structure of p(2 2)Sb/Cu(001) from measured LEED I/V data. The structure solution is performed in two steps. First an approximate ‘‘image” of the surface structure model is found by an application to the measured data of the recently-proposed Phase and Amplitude Recovery and Diffraction Image Generation Method (PARADIGM). This reveals that the p(2 2) structure is formed by the protrusion of one atom out of four in the outermost surface layer. Since an Sb atom is larger than one of Cu, this suggests a possibility that the p(2 2) structure is formed by Sb substitution for one out of four Cu atoms in the outermost layer. Second, a tensor LEED refinement of the model suggested by the PARADIGM yields the same dominant top-layer substitutional model proposed in the earlier LEED study, but with a much lower reliability factor, making much less likely an admixture of other surface phases. 2008 Elsevier B.V. Local structural and compositional determination via electron scattering: Heterogeneous Cu(001)-Pd surface alloy

We have measured the structure and chemical composition of ultrathin Pd films on Cu 001 using lowenergy electron microscopy. We determine their local stoichiometry and structure, with 8.5 nm lateral spatial resolution, by quantitatively analyzing the scattered electron intensity and comparing it to dynamical scattering calculations, as in a conventional low-energy electron diffraction LEED -IV ...

Controlled CVD growth of Cu-Sb alloy nanostructures.

Sb based alloy nanostructures have attracted much attention due to their many promising applications, e.g. as battery electrodes, thermoelectric materials and magnetic semiconductors. In many cases, these applications require controlled growth of Sb based alloys with desired sizes and shapes to achieve enhanced performance. Here, we report a flexible catalyst-free chemical vapor deposition (CVD...

Date of revision: Saturday, July 21, 2001 Structural aspects of the fivefold quasicrystalline Al-Cu-Fe surface from STM and dynamical LEED studies

We investigate the atomic structure of the fivefold surface of an icosahedral AlCu-Fe alloy, using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) imaging and a special dynamical low energy-electron diffraction (LEED) method. STM indicates that the step heights adopt (primarily) two values in the ratio of tau, but the spatial distribution of these two values does not follow a Fibonacci sequence, thus break...

A structural investigation of the interaction of oxalic acid with Cu(110)

The interaction of oxalic acid with the Cu(110) surface has been investigated by a combination of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM), low energy electron diffraction (LEED), soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (SXPS) , near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) and scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction (PhD), and density functional theory (DFT). O 1s SXPS and O K-edge NEXAFS...

Charge ordering on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 „ 001 ...

We have studied the ~001! surface of a Fe3O4 single crystal using scanning tunneling microscopy ~STM!, low-energy electron diffraction ~LEED!, and Auger electron spectroscopy. A clean surface was obtained by a combination of Ar ion sputtering, in situ annealing in O2 atmosphere, and further annealing in ultra high vacuum conditions. A sharp (A23A2)R45° reconstruction was observed by LEED and ST...
